What is fertilisation?
A process in sexual reproduction whereby the male and female gametes (haploid cells) unite to form a diploid zygote.

Zygote ?
When an ovum and sperm unite, they form a zygote which will develop into an organism.

What about cleavage?
It is a period of rapid cell division following fertilisation. During this time, very little new cytoplasm is made, there is an increase in number of cells but no increase in cell mass.

Blastula ?
One of the early embryonic structures, blastula is a hollow sphere of cells that surrounds a fluid-filled cavity called blastocoel.

Gastrula ?
The embryonic structure whereby the 3 embryonic tissues ; ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm are formed.

Organogenesis?
Process by which the ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm develop into the organs of the organism.

Neurulation?
A part of organogenesis whereby the neural tube is formed.

Lastly, what is embryo?
The developing multicellular organism between fertilisation and birth is called the embryo.
